Position Overview – Project Engineer

Wharton-Smith, Inc. is currently seeking a Project Engineer position our North Port/Port Charlotte Commercial construction division.  In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for the completion of specific tasks as assigned by the Project Manager. This position also interfaces with the estimating department, Project Superintendent, Project Assistant, subcontractors, design consultants, and owner/client.

A 2 or 4-year degree in engineering, architecture or construction, the ability to read and understand construction documents and plans are highly desirable.  Computer skills and the ability to learn quickly are a must.  This is an entry-level position which can lead to the career path of Project Management.

Primary Responsibilities

• Engineering duties as assigned for assistance in planning construction.
• Maintain and update project logs and schedules.
• Identify need for Requests for Information (RFIs).
• Coordinate facility startup activities. Visit Project sites to monitor progress conformance.
• Prepare, review and process shop drawings.
• Maintain as-built drawings.
• Collect and assemble O&M material.
• Perform subcontract scope analysis.
• Assist with purchasing and expediting.
• Document distribution.
• Meeting minutes and distribution.
• Scheduling.
